What is the meaning of Sardar?


'Sar' means 'head' and 'Dar' means 'to hold'. The whole word Sardar means holder of headship with an honor signifying a Leader. Sikhs were popularly called Sardars as they always volunteered themselves to be courageous human beings and headed infinite number of heroic acts against injustice.
