What is the significance of Nishan Sahib?

Nishan means Symbol or Standard. Nishan Sahib is the name for the triangular Sikh flag made of cotton or silk cloth, with a tassel at its end which marks all Gurdwaras and other religious premises of the Sikhs. The flagpole itself covered with fabric and the emblem on the flag is called Khanda. The origin of the Nishan Sahib is traced back to the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji  who hoisted a flag over Akal Takth at Amritsar. A gently fluttering Nishan Sahib is a call to the needy and all those turned away and rejected that you are most welcome here.
